This piece tells the story of Ulgundahi Island, a small island within the banks of the Clarence River (Biirrinba in our Yaygirr language). This island was where many Aboriginal families were moved to once the early settlers arrived in the Clarence Valley. My mother's family lived on the island and she grew up there, as did my grandmother and great grandmother.
At the centre of the island is a large fig tree which still stands today, the roots of this tree stand strong and embrace the love of the island and it's history for the local Yaegl people.

Hand printed on beautiful Yaegl Country.
